Are You Being Called To Go On A Mission Trip?

Join Us Sunday, June 1st at 6pm to Learn More.

Get ready for an incredible journey! We're excited to announce an interest meeting for our upcoming mission trip to Costa Rica in 2026, where we'll be once again working alongside missionaries Jason and Abby Torgeson.  This trip offers a unique opportunity to serve God, make a real difference in the lives of others, and experience a transformative journey. Join us for an interest meeting on Sunday, June 1st at 6pm in the church parlor to learn more about the trip, the location, how you can be a part of it and we'll try and answer any questions you might have in regards to this incredible journey.  If you are unable to attend the meeting but are interested in possibly going on the trip and receiving more information please let a member of the previous mission team know of your interest so that we can keep you included in receiving any information on the trip.

Helping the Sellers Center One Mattress at a Time

For those that attended the Costa Rica Mission Trip presentation at the beginning of April you heard about the not so lovely, very thin, worn-out mattresses that we slept on.  Most of us piled several mattresses on top of each other to create something somewhat decent to sleep on.  One of the projects that the missionaries in Costa Rica are working on is building new bunkbeds and replacing all the mattresses. Since we know what it was like to sleep on the current mattresses and because we would like to continue doing mission trips to Costa Rica (and sleep on better beds) we would like to help with the replacing of the mattresses.

A mattress is more than just a place to sleep; it's an essential component of our overall health and well-being. Quality sleep is fundamental to physical health, mental clarity, and emotional stability. We would like to ensure that all those who use the Sellers Center will be assured a good night’s sleep. When individuals are well-rested, they are more productive and can contribute positively to the mission or event that they are there for and with the Mattress Fund we aim to uplift the community by addressing this fundamental need.

How You Can Help

Donate: Every dollar counts. Your monetary donations go directly towards purchasing mattresses for the Sellers Center.  You can donate any amount but if you would like to donate the cost of one mattress, the amount is $180.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Let’s help our neighbors, one mattress at a time.

Ways to Donate

There are a couple of ways to donate, including:

  • Checks or cash: checks can be made out to First Church of God with “mattress fund” in the memo line. Cash can be given with a note that it is for the mattress fund. Both can be given in the offering or given to a mission team member.
  • Online donations can be made directly to the missionary fund that Jason and Abby Torgeson will use to purchase the mattresses. If you donate directly online, please let a member of the mission team know that you donated so that Jason and Abby know to earmark it for mattresses.https://chogglobal.org/mission-projects/projects-latin-america/la-mission

The couples of the church will be getting together at Blair’s Lake at 5:00pm on Sunday June 29th. Hot Dogs and ingredients for Smores will be provided to cook over the fire. Please bring a side dish to share. Feel free to bring a camp chair and fishing poles to sit by the lake or fish. We look forward to this time of fellowship and plan on inviting couples from Lillyville Church of God to join us. Please sign up on the bulletin board to help us in our preparations.

VBS will be held Sunday, June 22 through June 26th from 6:00 – 8:15pm. The theme is Magnified. We are still in need of volunteers to be at our registration table and as guides to lead kids from station to station. Responsibilities at the registration table include giving children their name tag, checking them off as they arrive, and the first two days, if they did not register online, you simply give the parent a registration form to fill out. We like to have three people at this station. After the children arrive, you are free to go. However, we do ask that between the 3 adults, that you take a turn to stay until closing to greet the parents as they return for pickup. If there are any youth members that want to help (seventh grade and older), we will gladly pair you up with an adult in recreation, music, preschool, craft or as a guide. If anyone needs community service hours as part of school, this would be a great opportunity. We ask that anyone 18 and older, helping with Bible school have their clearances. The church can help you out with this at no cost to you. If anyone can help in these areas, please reach out to Jen Parks at 724-544-0985. Also, if you are helping with Bible school, we are taking shirt orders until May 30th if you would like one. There is a signup sheet just outside the nursery on the bulletin board.

We will be decorating for VBS on Friday, June 20th at 6:00pm. Please come out and help us decorate the sanctuary, hallway and 2 classrooms! Please let Lydia Kingston or Jen Parks know if you can help even for a little bit. Instead of a monetary offering collection this year we are partnering with the Lillyville Church of Gog food pantry. They are open every 3rd Thursday of each month from 10-11:30am.  There is a table in the narthex for donated items along with pamphlet that list their needs. In addition of food items they also distribute cleaning products, health and beauty items and paper products. (They also accept new and gently used clothing and shoes. Donna would be glad to take them if you give them to her.)
